The Trio Campanella was established in 1997 and consists of the guitarists Christophe Dejour , Frank Massa and Thomas Winthereik. Trio Campanella is regarded as one of the most promising Scandinavian guitar ensembles of today.
The trio has chosen to work with masterpieces of great composers who had a special regard for the Spanish guitar. The pieces have been written for other instruments, but in the trio's own arrangements they have turned out to be quite suited for three guitars.
Trio Campanella´s first project was Suite Iberia by Isaac Albeniz. This Spanish masterpiece, with clear references to the Spanish guitar and the Andalusian folklore was originally written for the piano. The full length of Suite Iberia had never been arranged for guitar before, when Christophe Dejour transcribed the complete suite for three guitars, in 1996.
Trio Campanella first performed the whole suite, in Copenhagen, in 1998.

Among the trio's new projects is Fantasia Baetica by Manuel de Falla. This piece is also originally written for the piano, but clearly has its roots in the Andalusian music tradition and is inspired by Moorish ornaments and the intense dance rhythms of the flamenco.
Trio Campanella is also working on Enrique Granados great piano piece Goyescas.
The piece is based on the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya´s famous women portraits (La Maya).
The Music tells stories of ardent suitors, true love and elegies from a broken heart to the nightingale.
In this beautiful piece of programme music, Enrique Granados comments on the guitar as a direct inspiration for his work.
Fantasia Baetica and Goyescas have, like Iberia, never been arranged for the guitar before.

Apart from live performances on Danish and Swedish television and radio, Trio Campanella has also performed on several international chamber music festivals. In 2001 the trio was invited to participate in a master class with the Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha. A special honour, because the recordings of Iberia, Goyescas and Fantasia Baetica by Alicia de Larrocha has been the main source of inspiration to the trio.
Trio Campanellas recording of Iberia for three guitars was released in October 2003 on NAXOS worldwide.
